What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a state of pure focus. It is a state of heightened awareness where you can gain clarity and understanding of your situation. In hypnosis you are able to accept positive suggestions from the therapist. Equally, if the suggestions do not sit well with you, you are able to reject them. You are always in control.
Can anyone be hypnotised?
Yes, everyone can be hypnotised, some experience a lighter trance state than others but it doesn’t matter, the outcome will be the same whether it’s a light trance or deep. We enter into a natural state of hypnosis on a regular basis. Driving home and not remembering part of the journey is a natural hypnotic state. Becoming engrossed in a book or TV and not noticing someone come into the room is also a natural state of hypnosis.
Is it safe?
Hypnosis is perfectly safe and natural. You can come out of the trance state at any time you choose.
Is hypnosis like being asleep?
No, you are totally aware at all times. In fact, it is a state of heightened awareness where through the use of your creative mind and imagination positive changes can be made.
How many sessions will I need?
Sometimes 1 session will be enough. Most often 3-6 sessions depending on the nature and severity of the condition. The aim of the therapist should be to get results quickly and comfortably, not to keep people in therapy for a long period.
Will I lose control or do things against my will?
No, you are in control at all times and can come out of trance whenever you wish. It is not like stage hypnosis where people volunteer to take part in a comedy show. There is no place for that in a therapy situation.
Do I have to close my eyes?
It is not necessary to have your eyes closed but most people find it more comfortable to do so.
